Jerry Jones: Cooper Rush, Will Grier 'give us our best shot' without Dak Prescott

Jerry Jones threw cold water on the idea of the Cowboys trading for a quarterback to replace Dak Prescott, saying during a radio appearance Tuesday that Cooper Rush and Will Grier "know the offense well" and "consequently give us our best shot."

Jones added on 105.3 The FAN that the Cowboys have no trade "in mill" for a quarterback, despite speculation that Jimmy Garoppolo or other proven backups could be targets with Prescott set to miss extended time. Rush and Grier have made a combined three NFL starts.

Jones sounded less than enthusiastic when he addressed the Cowboys' quarterback situation on Sunday night, telling reporters, “We’ll have to have Cooper step up. He’ll get all the reps and we’ll go from there.”

News that Prescott's timeline for a return from surgery on his right thumb might be four to six weeks rather than six to eight might have made it easier for Jones to commit to Rush as his starter.

Jones said Tuesday the team feels better about Prescott's injury than it did on Sunday night, adding that they "want him to be in consideration for playing within the next four games." The Cowboys decided against placing Prescott on injured reserve after surgery.

Dallas' next four opponents are the Bengals, Giants, Commanders and Rams.
