Jerry Jones watched as the Dallas Cowboys endured another disappointing season in 2025. Finishing 7-9-1 under first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys missed the playoffs for a second straight year after reaching the postseason in each of the previous three seasons.
Under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Dallas fielded one of the league’s worst defenses in 2025, allowing 251.5 passing yards and 30.1 points per game, both the worst marks in the NFL. Following the season, the Cowboys parted ways with Eberflus and replaced him with former Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Watson. But on Sunday, the Eagles attempted to bring a Dallas coach back in return.
Klayton Adams began his NFL coaching career in 2019 after many seasons of college football, joining the Indianapolis Colts as their assistant offensive line coach. He spent four years in Indianapolis before joining the Arizona Cardinals as the offensive line coach. And in 2025, following Brian Schottenheimer's promotion to the Cowboys' head coach, Adams also received a promotion, replacing Schottenheimer as Dallas' offensive coordinator.
While the defense struggled in 2025, Adams helped lead the Cowboys to one of the NFL’s top offenses. Dallas averaged 391.9 yards per game, 268.1 passing yards per game and 27.7 points per game, with each figure ranking among the league’s top seven.
And on Sunday, the Eagles requested to interview Adams for their vacant offensive coordinator position after parting ways with Kavin Patullo. However, since this would have been a lateral move and not another promotion for Adams, the Cowboys had the option to reject the Eagles' request. And that's exactly what Jones did.
"The Eagles requested to interview Cowboys OC Klayton Adams for their offensive coordinator job but Dallas blocked the request, per league sources," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote on X. "Dallas finished second in total offense and values Adams."

The Cowboys will now look to return to the playoffs in the 2026 NFL season, but will need to address major holes on defense. They can begin doing so in free agency, which opens March 11, and then in the 2026 NFL Draft, where Dallas holds the No. 12 pick, beginning April 24.
