Jerry Jones has odd take on how Eagles built their Super Bowl LVII team

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII after running roughshod through the NFC playoffs.

The Dallas Cowboys, their division rivals, are coming off yet another disappointing playoff showing in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers. For Dallas, this represented the 27th consecutive season that it has failed to reach the NFC Championship Game.

Despite this, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to be even more chirpy than usual. In talking to the media from the site of the Senior Bowl in Alabama on Wednesday, Jones probably regrets the following comments, via Jon Machota of The Athletic:

“In essence, we’re seeing a couple of teams (Eagles and Rams) that have had some real success putting it all out there and paying for it later. Don’t think that doesn’t pop in my head and get my eye, as far as doing it, and I know how to do that.

"It’s part of what you put in that computer and what comes out. We’ll see how it comes. But that’s pretty impressive to have two teams in the last two years empty the bucket and get to the Super Bowl.”

Technically, Jones is right when it comes to the Los Angeles Rams. General manager Les Snead has taken pride in the fact that he doesn’t use draft picks. Trading for the likes of Matthew Stafford, Jalen Ramsey and Von Miller in recent years is a prime example of that. It came back to haunt them during an ugly five-win 2022 season.

Jerry Jones misses the mark in Philadelphia Eagles comments

Adding the Eagles to this narrative is strange. Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman did exhaust a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to acquire star wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade with the Tennessee Titans. That turned out swimmingly with Brown playing a huge role in Philadelphia’s run to the Super Bowl (1,496 yards, 11 TDs).

Did we mention that Philadelphia boasts the 10th pick in this year’s NFL Draft by virtue of a trade with the New Orleans Saints during last year’s annual event? It will also possess either the 30th or 31st pick depending on the outcome of the Super Bowl.

Jones is frustrated with the Cowboys’ lack of playoff success. He also made that clear by calling out the same 49ers team that defeated Dallas in the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

“San Francisco and the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 25 years. Understand that. San Francisco’s in the same boat,” Jones said on Wednesday, via Machota.

Perhaps the longtime owner should start worrying a bit more about his organization. After all, his team has won all of four playoff games since after the 1996 season.

For comparison’s sake, San Francisco has as many postseason wins over the past two years. The Philadelphia Eagles? Well, they have 12 more playoffs wins than Dallas since the end of the ’96 campaign.
