This year's Dallas Cowboys free agency feels like when a friend recommends you a new Netflix show, but tells you to push through the first season because it really gets good until Season 2. Right now, fans are waiting for Season 2.
The moves the Cowboys have made so far feel good when isolated one by one. But the budget hasn't been busted like they said it would, and the needle hasn't really moved. The defense is still several moves away to be ready for the 2026 season and the biggest move the team has made has been losing standout defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa.
Surely, they aren't pleased just yet. They need to make more moves. Right? Well, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't really showing that.
Cowboys fans thinking the team is just getting started may need to brace themselves to be underwhelmed by what will follow the team's first week of free agency. Starting with five words from Jerry Jones.
"I like what we got," Jones told the Associated Press via The Athletic's Jon Machota.
The full quote isn't much better, as Jones didn't show any signs of anything changing in the coming days.
"Yes," Jones said when asked if he's pleased with the Cowboys free agency so far. "I think we're within the boundaries of what we have available, what we're trying to accomplish with draft picks and with (salary) cap. I wouldn't try to re-visit or try to re-do what we've done on either that cap or the trades we've made. I like what we got."
The Cowboys currently rank 22nd in free agency spending, according to Over the Cap. Earlier in the offseason, Jones alluded multiple teams to the front office being open to "busting the budget" based on the belief they've got an elite offense led by Dak Prescott.
So far, it's not what we've seen. And with most of the top free agency options off the market—many of which they were outbid for—it's tough to envision how they'll go about it, if at all.
For now, Jerry likes who is on the team. Not that that is anything new.
