When the Dallas Cowboys suffered another disappointing end to a season with aspirations of a deep playoff run, some fans may have thought that head coach Mike McCarthy would be shown the door. The franchise parted ways with Wade Phillips midway through the 2010 campaign after multiple shortcomings and then fired Jason Garrett following the 2019 campaign in a similar fashion after nine-plus seasons.
Less than two weeks after their NFC wild-card game loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in January, however, it was reported that McCarthy's job was safe for a third season this fall. Even as former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton became a popular name for vacant gigs across the league, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated that McCarthy wasn't going anywhere.
On Tuesday, Jones again was adamant about his support for the 58-year-old former leader of the Green Bay Packers.
Jerry Jones on Mike McCarthy: "He wouldn't be sitting here today if I didn't think he was the man to lead this team to the Super Bowl. And I have choices."

In 16 NFL seasons as a head coach, McCarthy has posted a 143-92-2 record in the regular season and 10-9 mark in the playoffs. The Pittsburgh native helped lead the Packers to a championship in Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
