Jerry Jones reiterates Dak Prescott 'is the No. 1 QB' amid Cooper Rush's 4-0 start

Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush continues to make history. As shared by Mike Rosenstein of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, Rush became just the fifth undrafted quarterback to win each of his first five career NFL starts in the Super Bowl era by guiding Dallas to a 22-10 win at the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

As individuals such as Rosenstein and Jim Trotter of the league's website have pointed out, some are legitimately wondering if Rush should remain atop the Dallas depth chart even when starter Dak Prescott is cleared to return from the serious thumb injury he suffered in Week 1. However, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made it clear there's no controversy regarding his club and the sport's most important position.

"Dak is the No. 1 quarterback. Dak is our guy," Jones explained, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "But isn’t it great that somebody came in and played well enough so that we can ask that question? That’s my point."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that Prescott "still can't grip a football" and is "considered a long shot to be able to practice on Wednesday and play on Sunday" for the 4-1 Cowboys at the 5-0 Philadelphia Eagles in the upcoming prime-time matchup.

"Dak is going to get better this week," Jones added during his comments. "I have no idea whether he’ll line up against Philadelphia, but he’ll get better. And what’s inspirational here is that we’ve got a lot of good players here that didn’t play today that we’ve got help on the way with. Cooper Rush and the Dak Prescott syndrome, so to speak, is a fingerprint of this team."

According to ESPN stats, Rush began Monday 12th among eligible quarterbacks with a 93.9 passer rating, fifth with a 66.7 total QBR and 24th with a 61.0% completion percentage on the season. He's thrown four touchdowns with no interceptions across his four starts.
