The longer the contract dispute between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons, the more ridiculous it becomes.
With Micah requesting a trade, there isn't too much thought being put into that, at least from Jerry's perspective, and we know that the Dallas owner marches to his own drumbeat, not anyone else's.
So, if Parsons' trade request was a ploy to get talks rolling, it hasn't worked, with still no talks being had between Parsons' agent and the Cowboys. But surely there is a deadline for when Jerry would want a deal done with Parsons, right?
Say before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles?
"Not necessarily,” Jerry said in an interview with ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.
When asked why, he gave a most Jerry Jonesish answer, and it leaves us shaking our heads.
“Because I said so."
The fact that Jerry has had more media interviews than talks with Micah's agent since the trade request reveals all you need to know about how things are unfolding in Oxnard.
This saga just continues to drag on, and why have no talks taken place? Your guess is as good as mine. ... though the fact that Micah is under contract right now for 2025 at $21 million is likely going through Jerry's head.
Still ...
If any other general manager took this approach, we think that they wouldn't be employed by the organization for too much longer, but given Jerry's power as owner, this is part and parcel of dealing with the Cowboys.
Not many are taking the trade request seriously, but if Jerry continues to act so flippantly toward his best player and his desire to get a new contract, Micah - seeking $40 million-plus APY - might follow through and push even more forcefully.
Now, do we think a deal will get done? Absolutely.
But the bigger question is how many bridges will Jerry burn before his famous "deadlines make deals'' quote comes into play?
