Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Makes Bold Claim About Garrett Wilson
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Rodgers seems to be loving life as the new starting quarterback for the New York Jets. He has been a fixture at New York sporting events, showing up to Madison Square Garden to take in playoff games for the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

His early thoughts on being with his new team have been very positive. Rodgers said that it is still taking some time to adjust after being with the Green Bay Packers for 18 years but is enjoying the challenge of being with a new franchise.

Making a move this late into a career can’t be easy, but the transition is certainly easier since there are some familiar faces in the facility. The Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett to be offensive coordinator, who was in the same position with the Packers when Rodgers won the MVP in 2020 and 2021.

In free agency, some of Rodgers’ favorite targets were signed as wide receiver Allen Lazard signed a four-year, $44 million deal and Randall Cobb was signed after the 2023 NFL Draft. There is also a Davante Adams-like player on the roster in his opinion.

During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers touched on a number of subjects. One thing that he said that raised a few eyebrows was his comparison of defending Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson to Adams. Dov Kleiman shared the quote on Twitter.

“The explosiveness in and out of breaks is pretty similar.”

If Wilson can have anywhere near the impact that Adams did catching passes from Rodgers, he is going to feel right at home with his new team. Wilson certainly has a very high ceiling after catching 83 passes for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie campaign.

When you take into account who Wilson was catching passes from last season, those numbers are even more impressive. Quarterback play was incredibly inconsistent last season between Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco and Chris Streveler taking snaps under center.

Rodgers is a massive upgrade at the quarterback position for the Jets. Wilson has to be ecstatic about the change, as he could really take his game to another level with more consistent performances under center.
