Earlier this week, Tim Patrick returned to practice. That was a sign the veteran wideout could be back in the fold shortly, and he has indeed returned to the Jets’ active roster.
Patrick has been activated from injured reserve, the team announced on Saturday. A groin injury led to his IR stint, ensuring an absence of at least four games. Patrick is now back in the fold at the first possible opportunity, though.
The 32-year-old will offer a boost to New York’s passing attack. The Jets will once again be without Adonai Mitchell in Week 5, while first-round rookie Omar Cooper Jr. remains on injured reserve. Getting Patrick back will be welcomed as the team looks to improve on its 1-3 record and No. 25 ranking in points per game one month into the season. Patrick signed a one-year, $2MM free agent deal to join the Jets.
In a corresponding move, fellow receiver Jamaal Pritchett has been waived. The undrafted rookie has made one regular-season appearance to date for New York. If he goes unclaimed, Pritchett will be a free agent. He could find himself back with the Jets by signing to their practice squad in short order as a result.
On Saturday, the Jets also designated one player as a gameday elevation for Week 5. Linebacker Jaden Keller will be active against the Browns tomorrow, just as he was last week. Players can be elevated from the practice squad three times before they must be signed to the active roster to continue being eligible for regular-season action.
