Jets' Adam Gase ready to take new approach with Le'Veon Bell

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase wasn't too happy with Le'Veon Bell's production last season, but he's hopefully going to improve in 2020.

Gase plans to get the most out of Bell moving forward by doing things differently than what the 28-year-old has seen in the past.

“I do think we have some guys that can help maybe lessen the load on [Bell] to where it’s not all on him,” Gase said, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. “Hopefully, we can get some of the younger backs to where we can make a good one-two punch to where we can really excel instead of feeling like it’s just all on him all the time.”

Bell averaged just 3.2 yards per carry last season, which was his worst mark yet in the NFL. On top of that, he rushed for 245 yards and just two touchdowns.

The three-time Pro Bowler sat out the 2018 season due to a contract dispute, and that clearly hindered him last season. Bell saw a significant drop in yardage from the 2017 season to 2019 -- 1,291 yards to 789, which is his lowest yards ever with 12-plus games played.

If the Jets plan to take the load off of Bell in 2020, they'll be relying on Josh Adams, Kenneth Dixon, Trenton Cannon and Jalin Moore.

Those aren't necessarily big names, so it'll be interesting to see if Gase ends up giving Bell more of a workload as the season goes on if those guys don't perform well.
