Jets agree to part ways with veteran safety
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets will waive veteran safety Adrian Amos, according to NFL Network’s insider Tom Pelissero. Amos had signed with the Jets back in June, after Chuck Clark suffered a season-ending injury.

The decision to part ways was mutual. Even if Amos is a vested veteran, he will go through waivers because the trade deadline has already passed.

If a team decides to claim Amos, it will absorb around $416k in salary for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old safety is reportedly healthy and ready to contribute.

Defensive role

Adrian Amos is the third safety in number of snaps for the Jets this season. He played 34.24% of the defensive snaps, behind Jordan Whitehead (99.74%) and Tony Adams (68.35%), but ahead of Ashtyn Davis (13.18%), who will presumably have a bigger role moving forward.

Amos has been in the NFL since 2015, when he was a fifth-round pick for the Chicago Bears. After his four-year rookie contract expired, he signed a new four-year contract with the Green Bay Packers, where he played from 2019 to 2022.

He was playing at a solid level for the Jets, even if as a role player. According to PFF, Amos had a 72.7 overall grade, including an 88.0 run defense grade. When targeted, he’s allowed a 74.2 passer rating this season.
