Jets' Biggest Training Camp Question Centered Around Justin Fields

The New York Jets' offensive scheme under coordinator Tanner Engstrand is going to be easy to decipher in 2025. They will run the football.

Armed with a talented offensive line, plus a good trio of running backs, New York will be a tough, physical football team ... but quarterback Justin Fields will need to do his part as well.

Not so much as a runner, because we know what Fields is in that department, but there are going to be times where he has to make a throw to keep the chains moving or to win the game late in the fourth quarter.

Will he be able to get it done? For Bleacher Report, that is the biggest question aimed at the Jets this upcoming season.

"There should be little doubt the Jets are going to be able to run the ball," Bleacher Report writes. "The question, as it has been with Fields, is how much can he do as a passer. He has struggled with timing and accuracy in his career. Reuniting with college teammate Garrett Wilson could spark a new level for him.

"Wilson has been complimentary about Fields' leadership and the chemistry they share. Fields will need to develop chemistry with some other receiving threats for the Jets offense to take off, though."

Fields' weapons of Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, and rookie tight end Mason Taylor are a solid group of pass-catchers, but the feeling is that Justin needs more. Whether that is a free agent signing or a young receiver making a name for himself in camp, it's not going to be the most talented group.

Still, if the run game can get rolling, the passing game will open up with defenses having to put more resources into stopping the run. But Fields will need to take advantage of that with Wilson and his weapons, and some aren't sure if he can do it consistently enough for New York to win games of football.

We will start to see some of this unfold this week as new head coach Aaron Glenn on Tuesday will bring his veterans to camp to join the rookies.

Fields has a decent supporting cast, but is it enough for the offense to be better than it was last season? We're about to find out.
