Jets CB wants more after winning 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year

Despite winning 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year, Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner isn't satisfied.

"I got a lot of things I can work on that's going to get better in my second year," Gardner recently said at his camp, per Jania Clowers of The Detriot News. "I want to win a Super Bowl. I just want to be the best teammate I can be to help my team win."

Gardner's desire to improve and win is great for the Jets because the 22-year-old is already a lockdown CB. The fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft led the league in pass deflections last season, with 20 in 17 games. Per Pro Football Reference, he only allowed one passing touchdown in coverage. He also earned a first-team All-Pro nod.

In 2022, Pro Football Focus graded Gardner (87.9) as its No. 1 CB over Pro Bowlers, such as Denver's Patrick Surtain II (86.8) and Miami's Jalen Ramsey (86.4).

If Gardner stays on this track, his career could mirror former Jets star Darelle Revis, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and the best CB in franchise history.

Even Revis acknowledged he sees similarities between himself and Gardner. "He's a 2.0 of myself," he recently said via TMZ Sports.

Gardner becoming the successor to Revis could help the Jets end their 12-year playoff drought, the longest in North American sports. New York could do this in 2023 because it allowed the fourth-fewest points in the league last season. Plus, the offense should improve after it traded for former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP.

It won't be surprising if the Jets enter the postseason chase next season with Gardner as one of their catalysts.
