We all love a revenge story in sports, and it creates a host of storylines. For New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields, he will get the chance to have his revenge rather early in 2025.
Having spent just one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, in which he was 4-2 as the starter before being benched for Russell Wilson, Justin now finds himself in the Big Apple.
It is clear the NFL has a sense of humor because the Jets' first game in 2025 is against Pittsburgh at MetLife Stadium.
So that will be quite the spectacle, but wait, there's more.
For ESPN's Rich Cimini, the Jets' season-opener against the Steelers could be a double-revenge game...if Aaron Rodgers suits up for Pittsburgh.
"It's the season opener, of course," Cimini writes. "Not only is it the debut of the Glenn era, but it's a revenge game -- and, quite possibly, a double-revenge game. Quarterback Justin Fields will face the Steelers, the team that benched him after a 4-2 start and the team that let him walk in free agency.
"If Rodgers winds up signing with the Steelers, as many expect, it will create a delicious storyline. The future Hall of Famer felt disrespected by the Jets (Glenn, in particular) when they released him, and now he will have a chance to ruin their opening-day party."
Fields will no doubt want to get one over the team that considered him less-than last season, and being at home, you can bet the Jets fans will be on his side.
That is a tasty matchup, and then if we add in Rodgers on the other side, this game that could be considered "so-so" suddenly gets seriously spicy.
Granted, no one knows what Rodgers will do, even Pittsburgh, and the longer the wait, the less likely he is to play.
But Fields, regardless of whether Rodgers plays, will have his own mental demons to fight against his former team as he has the chance to get the new Jets era off to a hot start.
And proving to the Steelers that they were wrong to let him go.
