Jets' D.J. Reed: Garrett Wilson 'has that Justin Jefferson vibe'

Jets cornerback D.J. Reed had high praise for rookie teammate Garrett Wilson after Sunday's win, telling reporters Wilson "has that Justin Jefferson vibe."

Jefferson had a historic rookie season for the Vikings in 2020, racking up 1,400 yards, and he emerged as one of the NFL's most dangerous weapons with 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021.

Reed added, "dudes don't want to cover him man-to-man," after Wilson played a starring role in the Jets' stunning comeback victory over the Browns. Wilson totaled 102 yards and 2 touchdowns on eight receptions against the Browns, including the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

After showing promise with 52 yards in his NFL debut, there was clearly a plan to get Wilson more involved in the offense this week. Wilson was targeted 14 times, nine more times than any other wide receiver.

While he'll have to develop a connection with Zach Wilson once the second-year quarterback returns in Week 4, it's clear the Jets already trust the rookie to be a focal point of the offense.

It's much too early to call Wilson the next Justin Jefferson, but he has teammates believing.
