It may not be a blockbuster, but we do have a trade involving the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Jets and a few positions of need.

According to multiple reports, the Eagles and Jets have agreed to a trade involving both picks and players. The Jets are sending cornerback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Carter was a fifth-round pick by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft after a standout career at Duke. He's played in 65 games, starting 24, and 26 career passes defended with two interceptions. This year he's started four of five games at cornerback but has barely played this month.

Metchie was a second-round pick by the Houston Texans out of Alabama in the 2022 NFL Draft. He did not play as a rookie and had 44 receptions for 430 yards and a touchdown between 2023 and 2024. Metchie was traded to the Eagles in mid-August of this year but has just four receptions on the season.

The Crowd Goes Mild

NFL fans really weren't all that blown away by the deal. Metchie is seen as a project wide receiver with limited upside while Carter is viewed as a nickel corner with some ability to defend the outside receivers. In terms of how it influences the two teams, they're largely depth pieces.

Then again, the Eagles have a history of taking the Jets' trash and turning it into treasure. Between Mekhi Becton, Bryce Huff and Braden Mann, they've gotten plenty of production out New York-based castoffs.

As for the Jets, they simply need warm bodies at the wide receiver position right now. With star wide receiver Garrett Wilson out for the foreseeable future, they're taking anyone and anyone who knows how to catch a football with two feet inbounds these days.

The long-term impact of the trade might be felt in what the Jets and Eagles use the draft picks they swapped as part of the deal. It might really only end up being the difference in just a handful of spots in the 2027 NFL Draft, and not even for a top-150 player.

We haven't seen a "blockbuster" trade from anyone just yet, but the NFL trade deadline is still a few days away.
