Robert Saleh has only been head coach of the New York Jets for a month, but it appears he and his staff may be ready to move on from quarterback Sam Darnold.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Monday that the Jets intend to evaluate all of the top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft before making any decision on Darnold's future. Such evaluations may not finish until the draft kicks off on April 29.
What does that mean translate to? It’s likely gonna be a while. https://t.co/U4C7mRUuwW

Since accepting the Jets job in January, Saleh has mostly had positive things to say about Darnold without committing to the 23-year-old as his long-term starter. Such words do not, however, cover the fact that Darnold was, statistically speaking, one of the worst players at the position last season. According to ESPN stats, Darnold posted the NFL's worst passer rating (72.7) and lowest total QBR (40.1) among eligible quarterbacks for the 2020 campaign.
While ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. continues to predict the Jets will select a new target for Darnold in the draft, four different CBS Sports analysts and Walter Football all have the Jets using the second overall pick on a quarterback.
In late December, Gil Brandt wrote for the NFL's website that he believes the Jets won't exercise the fifth-year option on Darnold's contract that would attach him to the club through at least the 2022 season.
