Jets head coach Adam Gase 'surprised' Jamal Adams criticized his leadership

Jamal Adams made it clear that he was not a fan of Adam Gase during their time together in New York, and the Jets head coach admitted he was "surprised" that the young safety took shots at him after he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks.

Gase told reporters that he felt that he and Adams had a good relationship, but "obviously he felt different." Adams was drafted by the Jets in 2017 and immediately became one of the best safeties in the league, earning two Pro Bowl invites and a First-Team All-Pro in 2019.

However, Adams was unhappy playing for one of the most dismal franchises in the NFL and demanded a trade, eventually ending up in Seattle in exchange for Bradley McDougald, first- and third-round draft picks in 2021, and a 2022 first-round pick.

Just before he was traded, Adams dismissed Gase's leadership abilities and said he didn't believe the coach had what it takes to make the franchise a winner.

"I don't feel like he's the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land," Adams told Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News. "As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn't have a relationship with everybody in the building."

While Adams' assessment of Gase was harsh, it is proving to be somewhat accurate. The Jets have not won a single game this season, and it is widely assumed that he will be fired at the end of the season.
