The Jets inactives vs Chiefs have been announced, and the biggest news is that Garrett Wilson will miss Sunday’s game in Kansas City. Wilson remains in concussion protocol, leaving Geno Smith without his top receiver against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Jets will also be without Tim Patrick, Joseph Ossai and Trevin Wallace as they try to pull off an upset at Arrowhead Stadium.
The complete list was confirmed in the official Jets inactive report. Wilson’s absence is the biggest concern, especially against a Kansas City team that can put points on the board in a hurry. The Jets will need Adonai Mitchell and rookie Omar Cooper Jr. to step up, while tight end Kenyon Sadiq could be in line for additional opportunities in the passing game.
There is some good news for the Jets offense. Breece Hall is active after missing several games with a quad injury, giving Frank Reich another weapon alongside Braelon Allen. The Jets have gotten solid production from Allen, and having both running backs available could help take some of the pressure off Geno Smith and a receiving group that will be missing Wilson and Patrick.
On defense, Joseph Ossai remains sidelined with an ankle injury, while Trevin Wallace is out with a groin injury. The Jets elevated linebacker Troy Reeder from the practice squad to provide additional depth. Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips is active despite dealing with an ankle injury during the week, which is important for a defensive front that has struggled to consistently stop opposing offenses.
The Jets enter the game at 2-6, and the challenge doesn’t get much tougher than facing Mahomes on the road. With Wilson unavailable, the offense will need to find production from its younger players and establish the running game early. Aaron Glenn’s defense also needs to find a way to get off the field, something that has been a problem throughout the season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium. Join the conversation in the Jets vs Chiefs GameDay Thread on the JetNation forums before, during and after the game.
