Jets insider addresses renewed Haason Reddick trade chatter

Days after it was reported that at least one unnamed NFC executive thinks that the New York Jets may "haveto be willing to trade Haason Reddick during the ongoing season, ESPN analysts suggested possible transactions involving the unhappy pass-rusher who has stayed away from the Jets amid his desire for a contract extension.

According to an update shared by Jets insider Connor Hughes of SNY, Reddick won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

"I know that the Jets have insisted they are not trading Reddick,Hughes wrote for a mailbag published on Friday. "I’m told that’s still the case.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles this past spring and seemingly believed, for whatever reasons, that he would be a full participant from training camp through this past Monday's season opener at the San Francisco 49ers whether or not he received an extension.

Reddick instead failed to report to the Jets throughout the summer, and he was nowhere to be seen when Gang Green surrendered 401 total yards of offense in the 32-19 loss to the 49ers.

NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed shortly after New York's Week 1 defeat that she was "told by a league source that Reddick is operating with the 'mindset that he will die on this hill.'" According to Hughes, the Jets have a similar attitude regarding the situation.

"The Jets seem hellbent on not changing their stance,Hughes explained, "so everything I’ve been told is that they’re just waiting for [Reddick] to decide to show up.

Hughes added that two individuals who previously played alongside Reddick "said he is the type of person that, when he puts his mind to something, will not veer off it.Those former teammates think Reddick is "willing to sit the entire season until he gets what he wants to stick it to the Jets."

What is undeniably a win-now Jets team won't have Reddick in the lineup for this Sunday's game at the 0-1 Tennessee Titans. Even if the Jets get to 1-1 and then defeat the rebuilding New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium next Thursday night, logic suggests New York would have a better overall roster with a healthy and motivated Reddick disrupting opposing quarterbacks beginning with the Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
