The New York Jets' signing of former first-round pick Justin Fields has been seen as a win-win for the franchise.
The two-year, $40 million deal gives the team flexibility going forward, meaning if the Jets don't work well with Fields, they can cut ties with the quarterback and come out of it relatively unscathed.
But just because the Jets deal works well for them, with an easy way to get out if things go south, that doesn't mean Fields is seeing it the same way.
Having been fighting against the tide of a "bust" for the past couple of seasons, Fields isn't coming to the Big Apple to make up the numbers - he's here to prove many people wrong.
"I know I definitely have some untapped potential," Fields said in a bold announcement via the team's official website. "I'm hoping to get there this year and I'm hoping to put it on display for everybody to see."
Last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields was 4-2 as the starter, while throwing for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception while also rushing for 289 yards and five touchdowns.
The Jets' move for Fields is seen as a calculated dart throw with the new regime of Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey having a lot of cleaning up to do after the Aaron Rodgers era, and it is Justin whose task it is to lead the franchise in what promises to be a tough 2025.
But he's going into it head first, with the fuel of the doubters lighting his 2025 fire.
A Fields redemption tour incoming? He seems hellbent on making it as such.
