One of the New York Jets' biggest roster holes entering the NFL Draft was at receiver, and the franchise didn't draft a receiver, aside from Arian Smith in the fourth round.
LSU tight end Mason Taylor was taken in the second round, but there is a need for a clear receiver opposite Garrett Wilson.
With other options that include Allen Lazard, Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson, and Malachi Corley, they aren't exactly options that will scare defenses, which in turn, will see defensive coordinators gameplan for Wilson only.
But are there other options the Jets could look at?
The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer has thrown up free agent receivers Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper as candidates.
"The Jets drafted their tight end in Mason Taylor to help Garrett Wilson, but their depth chart is limited for Justin Fields, Iyer writes. "They should look at getting Cooper or Allen, too."
Allen is thought to want a return to California, but he would be a nice foil to Wilson if the Jets could stump up roughly $11 million APY (spotrac.com's evaluation).
As for Cooper, with Glenn and Darren Mougey wanting tough, physical football players, that isn't exactly in Amari's wheelhouse.
After a down year with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, Cooper doesn't have the offers on the table, and it might get to a point where he won't be able to be too choosy.
Both Allen and Cooper would be nice additions, but they are still free agents for a reason, and with the Jets' youth movement under Glenn, we aren't sure if two older, expensive receivers are in their thought process.
If they are, though, a phone call to gauge interest wouldn't be the worst idea.
