Jets Make Decision On Garrett Wilson After Blockbuster Trades

After trading Pro Bowlers Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the New York Jets appear to be having a fire sale on their top talents. With the trade deadline only minutes away, is top wide receiver Garrett Wilson being moved too?

The answer appears to be a resounding "no."

According to Jets insider Connor Hughes of SNY, a league source said that they attempted to reach out to the Jets inquiring about Wilson's availability. But the conversation with the Jets went nowhere and the Jets reportedly see Wilson as "untouchable."

"Spoke to a team that called the #Jets recently about WR Garrett Wilson. With Sauce Gardner dealt, feeling around the NFL is anyone can be had. Not the case with Wilson. Conversations did not progress. He's untouchable," Hughes wrote.

It makes sense. The Jets can't afford to start completely over on both sides of the ball even if it looks like that's exactly what they're doing. The Sauce trade was an offer that virtually no team would be able to turn down while the Quinnen trade was a case of the player outright telling the team he wanted out and finding a suitable trade partner.

Wilson is also dealing with an injury, so any team attempting to even contact the Jets would probably be trying to get him for a bargain to boot.

Wilson's impact

The Jets have a lot of faith in Wilson's ability to be an impact player for them in 2026 and beyond - likely with a young quarterback too. He had over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons and was the Rookie of the Year in 2022.

While he's unlikely to top 1,000 yards this year due to his injuries, the combination of Wilson, an ascending tight end in Mason Taylor and an improving offensive line could make them a more suitable place for a quarterback after this year.

And with the moves they've made, losing games is probably going to be a lot easier now. They may not be the lock for the No. 1 overall pick that they were before ending their losing streak, but they should still be in position to draft a top player in 2026.

Thanks to these trades, the Jets can draft more than one.
