After picking cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson in the top 10, the New York Jets traded up with the Tennessee Titans to take Florida State pass rusher Jermaine Johnson with the 26th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Jets received No. 26 and No. 101 from the Titans and sent back the No. 35, 69, and 163 picks in return.
Johnson was projected by many to be a much earlier selection with ESPN's Mel Kiper slotting him seventh overall to the New York Giants in his final mock draft.
From an exec: Jermaine Johnson isn’t sliding. The media had him overvalued. Good player. Not elite. Needs the right personality fit, too.

In his senior season at Florida State, Johnson finished with 11.5 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, and two fumbles forced.
#FSU EDGE Jermaine Johnson II has a lot of traits to get excited about. Power rusher that has high levels of strength as an edge setter and pass rusher. Executes a nice push-pull move and finish here with a strip sack TD vs. Clemson. pic.twitter.com/m3u8cp1qhn

The Jets finished the 2021 season with 33 sacks, seventh fewest in the NFL. Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Myers led the team with six sacks each.
