Jets offensive line proves why Aaron Rodgers shouldn't come back

Whatever hopes Rodgers has of returning to the field should be dashed after Sunday's result.

The Jets were eliminated from playoff contention with an ugly 30-0 loss in Miami. QB Zach Wilson completed just four of 11 passes for 26 yards and lost a fumble. Wilson was sacked four times and left the game in the second quarter with a concussion.

Backup QB Trevor Siemian didn't fare much better, going 14-for-26 with 110 passing yards and two interceptions. The Jets gained just 23 collective rushing yards, their lowest game total since 2005 per Stathead from Pro Football Reference.

The failures of the Jets offense begin and end with their dreadful offensive line that turned in its worst performance of the season Sunday, failing to protect Wilson and stifling the ground game.

In fairness, the Jets O-line has been ravaged by injury this season. Left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker tore his Achilles in Week 5. Center Connor McGovern dislocated his kneecap in Week 8. Left tackle Duane Brown suffered a hip injury in Week 2 and has only played one game since.

This is what Rodgers wants to come back to?

The fact that the Jets have been eliminated from the playoffs should be enough to discourage Rodgers from playing in Week 16 against Washington. Even if the Jets were still alive, though, why would he risk another injury behind this offensive line?

If Rodgers just wants to stick it to his doubters and say that he came back 15 weeks from an injury that's normally season-ending, it isn't worth it. The mere discussion of him returning is remarkable in and of itself. That should be enough for him to take a victory lap on Pat McAfee's show.

If Rodgers is seriously considering playing in a meaningless game behind a patchwork offensive line, he's out of his mind. To invoke a previous quote of his, he should "R-E-L-A-X" and look towards next season.
