The New York Jets have faced a 15-year playoff drought, but there is hope that Aaron Glenn can change the franchise's fortunes. However, the Jets finished his first year with a record of 3-14.
Glenn built his reputation as a defensive coordinator with the Lions; however, his first year as head coach did not produce favorable outcomes for the defense. The Jets finished ranked No. 25 in total defense, No. 17 in pass defense, No. 29 in rush defense, and No. 31 in points allowed. Additionally, the Jets recorded the lowest number of takeaways in the league, managing just four.
ESPN's Field Yates predicts the team will select star EDGE rusher David Bailey from Texas Tech with the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
"The Jets have maximized their cap space so far, trading for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and signing underrated edge rusher Joseph Ossai to a three-year deal," Yates wrote. "They also reached deals with Kingsley Enagbare and 37-year-old linebacker Demario Davis. But the work is far from done to fix a weak pass rush, which still needs young talent. No FBS player had more sacks in 2025 than Bailey (14.5), who was a dominant force during his lone season at Texas Tech. He forced a total of eight fumbles over the past two seasons and is one of the most violent disruptors in the class."
If the Jets use the No. 2 overall pick on Bailey, it would underscore their focus on rebuilding a defense that struggled throughout the previous season. Despite adding several veterans during the offseason, the team still lacks the type of young pass-rushing talent that can consistently disrupt opposing quarterbacks.
Bailey’s production at Texas Tech made him one of the most feared defenders in college football. His ability to generate sacks and force turnovers could provide the Jets with the type of defensive playmaker they have been missing. Edge rushers who can pressure the quarterback regularly often become the cornerstone of successful defenses.
For New York, adding Bailey could be a crucial step toward improving a unit that finished near the bottom of the league in multiple categories. If he transitions successfully to the professional level, he could quickly become a key piece in the Jets’ long-term plans in the NFL.
