Jets QB Joe Flacco agrees with Robert Saleh, thinks he has 'ability to start'

Quarterback and Super Bowl XLVII Most Valuable Player Joe Flacco is in the middle of his second stint with the New York Jets. Gang Green traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for his services after the Jets temporarily lost 2021 rookie Zach Wilson to a knee injury.

Flacco didn't play well enough to keep Wilson a long-term spectator, but the 37-year-old managed to complete 27-of-42 passes for 338 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions over a couple of appearances. The Jets re-signed Flacco in March, and head coach Robert Saleh generated buzz on Wednesday when he said the veteran has the goods to be "a starting quarterback in this league."

Not one to lack confidence in himself, Flacco made it known he agrees with his coach's assessment.

"I still think I have that ability to start," Flacco explained, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "It’s good to hear people say that — especially people that are close to the situation. I do believe I am still good enough to be a starting quarterback. That’s what still drives me to work hard and be the best I can."

Flacco was clear to note he isn't looking for a Big Apple exit. He added he's "not just willing" but "excited" to serve as a mentor for Wilson, who recently admitted he's deleting his social media apps following the kind of off-the-field drama he'd likely prefer to avoid moving forward.
