Jets' Darnold (shoulder) practices, hopes to start vs. Bills
Will Jets quarterback Sam Darnold be healthy enough to suit up against the Bills? Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Jets QB Sam Darnold (shoulder) practices, hopes to start against Bills

The New York Jets are looking to generate any possible spark for their offense after opening the season with six consecutive losses. Could that mean bringing quarterback Sam Darnold back before his shoulder is fully healed?

As Rich Cimini noted for ESPN, Darnold practiced on a limited basis for the first time since he experienced the setback during the Oct. 1. loss to the Denver Broncos. The 23-year-old diagnosed with an AC joint sprain reportedly threw the ball with good velocity on Wednesday and is on pace to start Sunday's game against division foes the Buffalo Bills.

"All options are available," Gase explained before practice. "We'll have him on a pitch count. I think really the biggest thing is how he's going to feel (Thursday).

"If there's anything that lingers or anything where he's throwing (in pain), that's kind of his red flag of, 'Hey, I have to let you guys know.' We need him to be real honest."

Veteran and one-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Joe Flacco has filled in under center during Darnold's absences. The 35-year-old has completed 41 of 79 (51.9%) of his passes for 397 yards with one touchdown, an interception and an overall QBR of 39.8.

The Jets enter the weekend dead last in passing yards per game (171.3) and points per contest with 12.5.
