Jets, QB Will Levis Agree To Deal

Levis is signing with New York, Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reports. This will be a practice squad pact, he adds. Levis joined Jack Plummer in auditioning for the Jets in early September.

While no immediate pact was worked out, it comes as little surprise Levis’ workout has led to a Jets opportunity. The former second-round pick will now join Bailey Zappe on the team’s taxi squad. Zappe – like Brady Cook – was let go during roster cuts but he wound up remaining in place with the Jets.

Geno Smith has handled starting duties in 2026, and that is set to continue provided he remains healthy. Rookie Cade Klubnik remains New York’s QB2 at this time. The Jets already had Zappe in place as insurance at the quarterback spot heading into Week 3, but Levis will represent another option during the season. This news comes shortly after it was learned linebacker Troy Reeder will be promoted from the taxi squad to the active roster.

Levis, 27, made 21 starts across his first two seasons in Tennessee. The Titans took Cam Ward first overall in last year’s draft, though, while Levis missed the entire 2025 campaign due to shoulder surgery. Instead of spending the final year of his rookie contract behind Ward on the depth chart, Levis asked to be cut. That request was granted, setting up a free agent period which has now led to a new opportunity.

The Jets are widely seen as a candidate to invest a first-round pick in a new quarterback during the 2027 draft. Smith is a pending free agent, while Klubnik (a fourth-rounder this past spring) projects as a depth option at the NFL level. Levis’ stock is not particularly high given his level of play when on the field and 2025 absence, but he will look to carve out a role in New York.
