Jets' Quincy Enunwa battling to return from career-threatening neck injury

Earlier this month, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed the New York Jets were placing wide receiver Quincy Enunwa on the physically-unable-to-perform list following a re-aggravated neck injury he suffered in the 2019 season opener, a setback that will cost the 27-year-old at least the entire 2020 campaign.

On Wednesday, Enunwa, who turns 28 on the last day of the month, told ESPN's Rich Cimini he's not giving up on his NFL dreams yet:

"If I'm capable of playing, then that's what I'll do. If it comes down to the fact that the doctors say I can't, there's not much I can do. There's really nothing I can do there, but if I have the ability to (play), the passion will always be there, the want-to will always be there.

"I think, aside from obviously my neck, the physical ability will always be there. It's really just about me going for the ride, I guess, because I'm not in control of that part anymore."

Enunwa added that he understood the risks involved with returning to the sport after the initial injury and that he doesn't blame anyone for his career sitting in limbo this spring.

After missing the entire 2017 season, Enunwa caught 38 of 68 targets with one touchdown across 11 games in 2018. He and the Jets put pen to paper on a four-year extension that December.

Per Cimini, the Jets could save over $3 million by cutting Enunwa next offseason.
