Jets RB Michael Carter expected to miss two to three weeks with ankle sprain

Things are going from bad to worse for the New York Jets. Starting running back Michael Carter suffered an ankle injury during the Week 11 loss to the Miami Dolphins and will reportedly miss some time.

The fourth-round pick out of the University of North Carolina got off to a bit of a slow start in his rookie year but turned it up of late, recording four rushing touchdowns in his last six games. Carter also recorded back-to-back games with over 100 yards from scrimmage in Weeks 7 and 8, and he was off to a big start against the Dolphins, rushing for 63 yards on nine carries before going down with the injury.

Carter leads the Jets in rushing attempts (111), rushing yards (430) and rushing touchdowns (four). He ranks third in targets (32) and receiving yards (308) as well.

In Carter's absence, the Jets will likely turn to third-year back Ty Johnson as well as seventh-year pro Tevin Coleman to carry the load.
