Former Cleveland Browns DT Perrion Winfrey has officially found a new home in the NFL, nearly four months after he was released by the Browns.

Winfrey signed with the Jets’ practice squad Tuesday, a week after he was given a tryout by the team. He joins his second team since being drafted by the Browns in the fourth round in 2022.

Winfrey was released by Cleveland in July after he was listed as a suspect in an aggravated robbery incident.

In the police report, a woman claimed she and a friend knew Winfrey and had his number in her cell phone. When she saw him in a hotel lobby, she yelled his name, but Winfrey didn’t respond, and she called him a “p---y.” Winfrey then became upset and followed them outside the hotel, leading the woman to become afraid and begin recording on her phone. Winfrey then went after her phone and allegedly struck her neck. It was also documented that he pulled up his waistband to reveal a handgun. Winfrey left with the the alleged victims phones.

The incident came three months after Winfrey was also arrested for a misdemeanor assault charge in Harris County, Texas. He was released three days prior to training camp.

The Browns had high hopes Winfrey could become a solid player in their defensive interior when they drafted him 108th overall out of Oklahoma, in 2022. He played 13 games his rookie season, tallying a half sack, two pass breakups and 22 tackles, but he was also suspended the second game of the season for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.

Despite the off-field conflicts, Winfrey has been given an opportunity to write a new chapter of his career.
