Much of the focus on the New York Jets' tumult last season centered around their offense and their coaching staff. A seemingly dysfunctional environment from the start reared an ugly head as the team sunk to a 5-12 record.
From the coaching staff, the team fired head coach Robert Saleh just a few games into the season after a 2-3 start. Offensively, a washed up version of Aaron Rodgers could not shoulder enough of a load to get them out of their hole.
But amid all the controversy and distractions that stole the headlines the Jets also had one of the worst field goal units in the league. New York finished third from last in field goal percentage, going 20 of 28 for 71.4%, using five different kickers in the process.
Like the other areas of the staff and the roster they have taken action to remedy this issue. The Jets took one more step Tuesday, signing UFL kicker Harrison Mevis.

He joins the placekicking group consisting of Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis. Mevis had one of the most reliable legs in the UFL last season, making 20 of his 21 attempted field goals for the Birmingham Stallions.
Mevis, also known as the Thiccer Kicker, tried out for the Carolina Panthers kicking job last season before falling short to Eddy Pineiro.
He hopes to join the recent UFL kicking success stories including Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey and Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates.
The Jets stabilized their coaching staff with the hire of promising candidate in Aaron Glenn and will have Justin Fields taking over under center. Jets fans certainly hope the special teams can take a similar step in the right direction.
