When the New York Jets took the field at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, to take on the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, the franchise snapped a dubious streak by playing their first game televised on NBC's "Sunday Night Football" since 2012 .
Even though it's a preseason tilt, it still counts for the Jets, whose last game on NBC over a decade ago is still being talked about today for all the wrong reasons.

The Jets' last previous appearance in the flagship game came not on a Sunday, but a Thursday. Thanksgiving Day, November 22, to be exact. On that fateful day, the Jets were blown out, 49-19, by the rival New England Patriots. The game is remembered most for quarterback Mark Sanchez's infamous "Butt Fumble," which still haunts the grounds of MetLife Stadium.

Despite the Jets' recent streak of primetime futility – they've only played on Sunday night eight times since the NFL returned to NBC in 2006, going 4-3 – they'll have several shots to wipe off Sanchez's Sunday night stink this coming season, with match-ups against the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs (Week 4) and Las Vegas Raiders (Week 10).
With the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, suddenly, the Jets are an attractive option for Sunday night contests and other primetime games. Overall for the campaign, the Jets will play twice on Monday night (Week 1, Week 9) and on Amazon Prime Video (Week 12, Week 17), along with their two Sunday night contests.
