Jets To Activate Omar Cooper Jr. From IR

Omar Cooper Jr.  returned to practice earlier this week. The Jets rookie is now set to return to the lineup.

Head coach Aaron Glenn said this morning (h/t Brian Costello of the New York Post) Cooper will play in Week 6. That means a return after a minimum four-game injured reserve absence is in store. Cooper suffered a sprained ankle during his debut, requiring his IR stint.

The Jets have dealt with a number of injuries at the receiver spot early in the campaign. Getting Cooper back in the fold will be welcomed, though. The No. 30 pick in 2026’s draft should take on a notable role upon returning to action. New York sits at 2-3 on the year and currently ranks 27th in the league in scoring.

Improved health in the backfield (Breece Hall has yet to play since Week 3) would certainly help lead to an improvement on that front. The Jets’ receiver production could nevertheless see an uptick moving forward with Cooper in the fold once more. The Indiana product was limited to one catch during the season opener, but he could become a regular in the passing game without any further injury issues.

The Jets were among the teams which designated two players for return from injured reserve during roster cuts. That accounted for two of their eight IR activations, while Tim Patrick was brought back last week. As a result, Cooper’s return to the roster will leave New York with four activations over the remainder of the regular season.
