Jets To Waive K Cade York

Nick Folk departed in free agency this spring, taking a deal with the Falcons. York signed with the Jets in March, giving him the opportunity to compete for the role of Folk’s replacement in 2026. New York has since brought in Jason Sanders, however. The former Dolphins kicker remains in the fold at this time.

After yesterday’s practice – during which both York and Sanders struggled with inaccuracy – Brian Costello of the New York Post noted the Jets may not currently have their Week 1 kicker on the roster. He predicted general manager Darren Mougey would attempt to make an acquisition over the coming days in the hopes of landing more reliable option. With that in mind, today’s news about York comes as little surprise.

A fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2022, York handled kicking duties for Cleveland during his rookie campaign. Since going 24-for-32 on field goals during that time, however, he has totaled just six appearances during the regular season. The 25-year-old sports a career FG accuracy rate of 73.3%; he has connected on 51 of 54 extra point tries. York’s one-year pact contained $1.15MM in base pay but that amount was not guaranteed, so this cut will not generate any dead money for the Jets.

Sanders was sidelined for all of 2025, but he lined up a Giants deal in March. The former All-Pro wound up being cut in June, though, and the Jets moved quickly in signing him and moving on from Younghoe Koo in the process. Sanders, 30, posted a success rate of 90.2% on his field goal attempts during the 2024 campaign and he now represents the Jets’ only kicker. It will be interesting to see if that remains the case through roster cutdowns and into the start of the season.
