In a stunning turn of events, the New York Jets have decided to trade away All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Coming into the traded deadline, there was a lot of smoke surrounding the Jets. At 1-7, it's very clear they're in a rebuild with first-year coach Aaron Glenn. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, teams
“There’s an element of trying to figure out who are Glenn’s guys and who aren’t,” a source told Schultz. “Remember when Detroit suddenly traded Hockenson? A building block from the last regime is not going to be a guaranteed building block in this one.”
Well, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets are trading Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for a pair of first-round picks.
This is a shocking move considering Gardner signed a four-year, $120.4 million extension in July. However, the Jets got a huge haul in return for him.
As for the Colts, they're clearly in win-now mode.
Jets running back Breece Hall has been mentioned in trade rumors this season. Perhaps he could be on the move soon.
It's also worth keeping an eye on Jermaine Johnson II, Will McDonald IV and Quincy Williams.
Back in 2023, Johnson had 55 combined tackles, 16 QB hits, 7.5 sacks and a forced fumble. If he's not part of New York's long-term plans, he would be a nice trade asset for Jets general manager Darren Mougey.
