Jim Harbaugh wants to live like this 1970s TV detective in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh's been on the job less than two weeks and he has a lot to sort out. Harbaugh's busy deciding who will be on his staff and doing roster and NFL Draft evaluations, and he also has to buy a house.

Harbaugh's plans for the immediate future revolve around all things football, and his living arrangements may be reminiscent of a television hero of Harbaugh's from the 1970's. The character is Jim Rockford, played by James Garner. The show is Rockford Files. Rockford Files is about a private investigator who rides around in a cool sports car, gets in the occasional bare knuckle brawl and lives in a trailer right on the Pacific Ocean.

Based upon Harbaugh's comments at his introductory new conference, he's aspiring to be a bit Rockford-like.

"My favorite show growing up is the Rockford Files. It's still my favorite show," Harbaugh said. "That was me as a kid. Driving that Camaro around L.A. and the car chases. Down there by the beach, have the trailer down there at the beach," Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh living in a trailer by the beach is something he's actually put some research into.

"I told my wife this — should I tell them? I want to drive my RV out here and go to a trailer park, like down by the water or by Disneyland," Harbaugh said. "There are two that I've researched that are close to the facility. I want to Jim Rockford it for the next couple of months until we move into the new facility. I have that thought going through my head."

Harbaugh's love of the Rockford Files and James Garner are both well documented. Harbaugh met Garner when he was the quarterback of the Chicago Bears. A couple decades later as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh posed with a signed photo from Garner of that meeting.

Harbaugh might not be Jim Rockford, but it certainly seems like he is living his best life in Los Angeles and embracing fond memories of his childhood in the process. There is a certain kind of romanticism in living free right along the ocean in sunny California.
