Hall of Fame center for the Raiders, Jim Otto passed away on Sunday at 86 years old. He was a member of the team from 1960 until 1974.
His legacy was cemented as one of the greats in history when he was inducted into the 1980 Hall of Fame class. Otto was one of the first players to wear the double zero as a jersey number.
There are only twenty players who played through all ten years that the American Football League existed including Otto. Only three players never missed a contest that their team was involved in which also is an accomplishment.
A special statistic for Otto is that he was named an all star in every single year he played in the AFL. Once the league transformed into what is now the National Football League, Otto was an Oakland Raider.
Head coach for the Raiders, Antonio Pierce shared his condolences with the team during a meeting.
“Jim Otto was obviously a Raider through and through,” Pierce said. “Let’s give him his flowers.”

“The Original Raider” is what he is called and he embodies toughness. A quote from Jim Otto during his playing days was, “If my nose wasn’t broken, I didn’t play hard enough.”
In the NFL, he would be elected into three Pro Bowls, but sadly never was able to be apart of a championship team. He started in every game he played in with over 200 matchups on his resume.
Otto will likely be commemorated at one of the Raiders upcoming preseason games.
