Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has made a significant decision regarding his coaching future.
The Browns announced Friday that Schwartz is resigning as defensive coordinator. The decision apparently comes in the wake of his failure to land the team’s head coaching job.

Schwartz had been viewed as a strong candidate for the Cleveland head coaching job, but the franchise opted to go with Todd Monken instead. The veteran defensive coordinator was said to be furious with the decision and was considering his position with the Browns as a result, even though the organization hoped he would remain on staff.
Immediately, Schwartz hits the market as a top defensive coordinator. He might have to wait a bit for a job to open up, however, as the Raiders and Cardinals are the only other teams that still have a job vacancy.
The Browns will now have to find Monken a new defensive coordinator to replace Schwartz, who has consistently put together high-end units with the team. There might also be some worries about how Myles Garrett might respond to this, though the organization seems relaxed about that.
