Jimmy Garoppolo feels Raiders offense has 'buzz going on'

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has won at a high level as a pro. Despite some critics perceiving Garoppolo as a game manager, he's done nothing but win ever since he joined the NFL. Garoppolo has a career regular season record of 40-17 and is 4-2 in the playoffs with one Super Bowl appearance.

Raiders fans would love a Super Bowl appearance, as it's been over 20 seasons since they lost in the big dance to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Garoppolo comes to Vegas reunited with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, his former offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots. Along with that familiarity also comes a scheme that's different from his time with the San Francisco 49ers.

Garoppolo told the media on Wednesday that the Raiders' offensive scheme has a lot more pre-snap diagnosis than the 49ers and "a lot more work for the quarterback."

“You’ve really got to use your brain and be on it, but I love stuff like that," Garoppolo said, per the San Francisco Chronicle. "That’s the game within the game, and you get to play it at the line of scrimmage. And when you’re out there, man, it’s fun."

Garoppolo's football IQ is evident when looking at where he ranks historically in a couple of key passing categories. He ranks third all-time in yards per pass attempt with 8.3, and sixth all-time in passer rating at 99.6. After a 2022 season where the Raiders were 6-11, Garoppolo's presence has brought excitement to the locker room and a feeling that this year could be different.

“There’s a little bit of a buzz going on,” Garoppolo said. “You can feel it. It’s just refreshing. New start and everything; new group of guys; new coaches. We’ve kind of started to find our stride a little bit, and we’ve been flowing."

With talented wideouts to throw to such as Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, the arrow may be pointing up for the Raiders offense.
