Jimmy Garoppolo landed with the Los Angeles Rams because the league forced his hand.
Well, sort of.
Garoppolo signed a one-year deal to play for the Rams, but he won't be available for the first two games of the 2024 season because the NFL suspended him for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. That is when he called up Sean McVay to see if there was anything could be done.
"I just messed up the T.U.E. when I first got to Las Vegas. Bad timing, I guess," Garoppolo said, via The Athletic. "Talking to Sean on the phone, him just running me through offense and things that he had in mind, it really became appetizing. And I know a lot of the coaches here, so a lot of familiarity in that aspect. And then having played against the Rams a lot in my career, I've seen a lot of good things from L.A."
Garoppolo won't play for the first two games of the season. After that, he will most likely be a backup to veteran Matthew Stafford.
All the while, McVay will help Garoppolo rebuild his image for his one year back on the West Coast.
