J.J. McCarthy Receives Good News with Major Vikings' Update
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings drafted J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He was selected to be the team's long-term quarterback of the future.

After missing all of the 2024 season due to a knee injury, McCarthy sat on the sideline and watched Sam Darnold put together an extremely successful year.

With Darnold now leaving for a three-year, $100.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, there is a chance that McCarthy will be the starter in 2025. However, a lot of rumors have surrounded the Vikings and a potential signing of Aaron Rodgers.

A new update has been shared that offers McCarthy good news about his chances of playing this year.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero has reported that Minnesota is moving forward with McCarthy as its No. 1 quarterback. The front office seems to be moving on from the Rodgers idea.

"The Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say," Pelissero posted on X. "The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1."

As Pelissero mentioned, the Vikings will likely add a veteran quarterback. That veteran quarterback will be asked to provide depth behind McCarthy.

Rodgers now will have at least two other teams to choose from. Both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers have shown interest in signing him.

On the Minnesota side of things, sticking with McCarthy is a clear sign of its faith in the young quarterback. He'll have big shoes to fill and a lot of pressure to face, but the Vikings are seemingly all in on him following Pelissero's report.
