With Los Angeles Chargers second-string running back Gus Edwards being placed on IR and out for at least the next four games, rookie Kimani Vidal was active for the first time this season in a 23-16 win over the Denver Broncos.
Vidal's first career touch was a 38-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter on a wheel route. Vidal sped down the sideline and reached out to make an excellent catch.

"That was a really good catch by Kimani," Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "Really love how he finished it off in the end zone."
Vidal also carried the ball four times for 11 yards, and per Harbaugh, he might receive more playing time in games to come.
"That's been the great progression. Now he's in there in the games. We're going to be able to trust him a lot more now," Harbaugh said.
Vidal, who stands 5-foot-8, 215 pounds, was prolific in college at Troy. The sixth-round pick ranked No. 2 in the FBS with 1,661 rushing yards last season, No. 2 in yards after contact (1,056), No. 3 in rushes for a first down (82), No. 2 in missed tackles forced (94) and No. 1 in runs of 10+ yards (47).
Chargers lead back J.K. Dobbins was thrilled to see Vidal fare well against the Broncos and believes this is just the beginning of a special career.
"He was impressive," Dobbins said. "All week we knew he was gonna play. I was telling him, 'Don't let your opportunity pass you by, you're a rookie, everybody's counting on you now, so let's do it.' All off-season, even in the spring, I've been on him. I see greatness in him. He will be a great back."
With Edwards now on the shelf and Vidal's successful first showing, it looks like drafting Vidal in the sixth round could become a major steal for the Chargers and general manager Joe Hortiz. Especially if he keeps scoring touchdowns.
