Going into the 2025-2026 NFL season, it seems like most fans are set on Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen being the best quarterbacks in football. Are they counting out Joe Burrow, though? After all, in five seasons in the league, he’s averaged 19.7 fantasy points per week. Since he came out of LSU, Burrow’s been putting opposing defenses on notice. While he can appear inconsistent at times, it may not be a good idea to discount Burrow just because his good games are so statistically phenomenal.
By far, the quickest way to score well in Fantasy Football is to score touchdowns, and Burrow did plenty of that in 2024. He threw 43 touchdowns to only nine interceptions throughout the season. Some fans might remember his five-touchdown outing against Baltimore last season.
Burrow also had 33.7 fantasy points in the second game against Baltimore and 37 points against, of all opponents, Denver’s defense. From Week 9 to Week 17, Burrow threw at least three touchdowns in each game. In that stretch of time, his lowest yardage was 251. Given the fact that he rarely runs, it’s clear that when Burrow is feeling good, he can put up points on the board very quickly. He had great connections with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins as well, both of whom he threw deep to often.
Looking at plenty of tier lists and rankings, Burrow usually gets placed behind that S tier, which has Jackson, Allen, and maybe one other quarterback. Fantasy Pros has him ranked as the number five quarterback behind Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels. The one thing that all of these quarterbacks have over Joe Burrow is a better ability to run the football. That being said, Burrow might have as good a season as any of those players ranked ahead of him.
Not only can he sling the ball, but Burrow has two of the best receivers in the league. Neither Jackson, Allen, Hurts, nor Daniels can say they have as talented a receiving core as Burrow does (although Daniels is close with Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel).
Additionally, the Bengals have a weak defense, which means Burrow will need to score points to keep his team ahead in some of these games. Most mock drafts will show participants waiting until later rounds to pick up Burrow, but if Jackson and Allen are off the board, there’s honestly nothing wrong with picking Burrow as the next quarterback. This goes double for anyone who picks Ja’Marr Chase or Tee Higgins and wants to stack.
