Joe Burrow, Bengals handle Commanders in preseason action

Joe Burrow led the Bengals on two touchdown drives during the three possessions he played, helping Cincinnati post a 31-17 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday in Landover, Md.

Burrow (9-for-14, 62 yards) threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Jones early in the second quarter to tie the game 14-14. Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning (16-for-25, 159 yards) then connected with Mitchell Tinsley on scoring tosses of 13 and 21 yards to give the visitors a 28-14 halftime lead.

Tinsley finished with five receptions for 73 yards, while Tahj Brooks gained 47 yards on 11 carries for the Bengals (1-1).

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels scrambled for a 14-yard touchdown to cap his lone series. After dropping back to pass and spotting no open receivers, he sidestepped defenders at the line of scrimmage, raced up the middle and broke a tackle at the 2-yard line before going in standing up.

Daniels didn't throw a pass in his first action of the preseason.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. ran six times for gained 62 yards for the Commanders (0-2). Jacory Croskey-Merritt added 11 carries, 46 yards and a touchdown. Josh Johnson was 6 of 9 for 56 yards, Sam Hartman finished 4 of 10 for 29 yards, and each threw an interception.
