During his end-of-minicamp press conference, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow explicitly compared the team’s 2026 vibe and championship dreams to his unforgettable 2019 LSU Tigers squad.
It’s the first time since he joined the NFL in 2020 that Burrow has openly linked Cincinnati to the legendary 15-0 LSU national champions.
#Bengals QB Joe Burrow says this year’s team reminds him of the legendary 2019 LSU squad — and he wants that pressure on this team.

Burrow encouraged reporters to recall his mindset before that remarkable college season. He shared, “You go back and watch what I said before the 2019 season at LSU—I feel very similarly about this team.” Back then, Burrow confidently predicted LSU’s offense would regularly rack up 40 to 60 points per game. They did just that, with an average of 48.4 points. Now, he believes the 2026 Bengals are approaching a similar offensive high.

A big reason for Burrow’s optimism is how the team has built its roster. He pointed out two main reasons: first, the Bengals have kept every offensive starter, creating a strong core of veterans instead of relying on rookies; second, the front office has made significant improvements to the defense by acquiring star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II in a major trade, along with key additions like edge rusher Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook.

Burrow also shared that he’s intentionally embracing high expectations. He welcomed the spotlight, saying, “I want everybody talking about the Bengals. I want everybody talking about what I’m saying in my press conferences.” Additionally, he has adopted a more confident and vocal leadership style to inspire the team with the urgency needed to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Cincinnati.
