Joe Burrow reacts to the Jayden Daniels-LSU drama

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has weighed in on the drama between Jayden Daniels and LSU.

Burrow was asked Thursday about the dispute between Daniels and the Tigers, reportedly over the team’s decision to issue Daniels’ No. 5 again. Burrow admitted that he simply did not know enough about the situation to offer a take, but he did say he has received assurances from LSU that his No. 9 would not be issued again.

“I just heard about it a couple hours ago. I don’t know enough about the situation to have any thoughts, I would say,” Burrow said. “They told me that they wouldn’t use (No. 9) again, but you never know what happens.”

It is unclear whether Daniels ever received a similar pledge from LSU. While Daniels and Burrow both won the Heisman Trophy at LSU, Burrow also won a championship, which means he is generally held in higher regard by the football program.

Daniels has demanded that LSU stop using his name, image, and likeness after the school issued his No. 5 to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett. The former LSU quarterback has even asked the school to return their copy of his Heisman Trophy, though LSU has no intention of doing so.

Both Daniels and Burrow were transfers who spent two years with the Tigers. Daniels’ accomplishments at LSU were outstanding, but Burrow won that title. He also just seems to be on better terms with LSU in general, and while he is not saying anything negative about Daniels, he certainly isn’t siding with him, either.
