Joe Burrow continues to earn recognition as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks heading into the 2026 season.

In a recent Instagram post, NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms ranked the Cincinnati Bengals star as the No. 2 quarterback. The ranking placed Burrow behind Patrick Mahomes. He acknowledged Burrow’s injury history but said he is at his best when he is healthy.

“Burrow, you know, like Mahomes and Lamar, there is the injury thing there and is certainly a factor,” Simms said. “But man, when I watch Joe Burrow, and he’s out there right now, I mean, he’s arguably the most surgical guy in the NFL from the pocket.”

Simms’ statement proves why Burrow remains at the center of Cincinnati’s production. Since entering the league in 2020, he has established himself as one of the NFL’s most accurate and efficient quarterbacks.

He also pointed to Burrow’s precision as the trait that separates him from most of the quarterbacks.

“He’s got a sixth sense,” Simms said. “First off, he never misses the target. His throwing, his accuracy is incredible. Everything from power throws to being a passer, and touch and anticipation.” Also reported by Arye Tulli of the Cincinnati Bengals on SI.

Burrow’s ability to deliver accurate throws has helped make the Bengals’ offense one of the league’s most dangerous units.

He appeared in eight games during the 2025 season before a turf toe injury affected his campaign. He still threw for 1,809 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

While the ranking highlights Burrow’s standing among NFL quarterbacks, another analyst believes he could be in line for an even bigger honor.

NFL Insider Predicts Joe Burrow Could Enter MVP Conversation

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, Burrow should be viewed as one of the leading candidates for the NFL MVP Award entering the 2026 season. He pointed to Cincinnati’s revamped defense and the talent surrounding Burrow on offense as reasons for optimism.

“Burrow is the NFL’s highest-rated passer from Nov-Jan in the regular season during his time in the NFL, and this is an award where the human element matters,” La Canfora wrote

He also suggested voter sentiment could work in Burrow’s favor if Cincinnati emerges as one of the AFC’s top teams.

“Well, Burrow has never won the award, and if, as one GM put it to me – the Bengals are ‘the team to beat’ in the AFC, this may be his best and most-complete season yet.”

Burrow has already produced MVP-caliber numbers before. In 2024, he threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns while leading one of the NFL’s most productive offenses.

The Bengals have invested heavily in Burrow. He is currently in the middle of a five-year, $275 million contract extension and remains the centerpiece of the team’s long-term plans.

If Cincinnati’s defense improves and Burrow stays healthy, the Bengals quarterback could find himself near the top of both the rankings and the MVP race this season.
