Fox Sports Analyst Joel Klatt had some fun with Penn State football’s fanbase.
Klatt, who color commentates Fox’s “Big Noon Saturday” games throughout the regular season, is well-aware that Penn State fans aren’t fond of Big Noon.
Because Fox is part of the Big Ten’s massive media rights deal, the network has the power to schedule some of the biggest college football games of the season much earlier than many fans would like.
For instance, this year’s Penn State-Ohio State game— which pitted the No. 3 and 4 teams in the country against each other in Beaver Stadium— would have been a nighttime Happy Valley White Out in year’s past. But because of Fox, that game took place at noon. As a result, Penn State saved its White Out for a later date (Nov. 9 against Washington).
Penn State’s first College Football Playoff game this Saturday will be at noon. But unlike the Ohio State game, it will be a White Out.
Klatt saw an opportunity to have some fun and took advantage of it.
“Shocking,” Klatt said on “The Joel Klatt Show” Wednesday afternoon, “you can do a White Out at noon.”
Klatt then paused for more than 10 seconds to let his message sink in.
Fox doesn’t have rights to the College Football Playoff and thus won’t be broadcasting Penn State-SMU Saturday. The game will instead be on TNT and HBO Max.
